Thanks to one of the world’s finest cacao and labeled “Fine cocoa” by the International Cocoa Organization since January 2016, Malagasy chocolate is appreciated for its floral notes, its acidity and its slight astringency on the finish.
Menakao are one of the few chocolate makers who craft chocolate in the very country in which it sources its cacao from. It was Shahin Chenai’s dream to complete the bean-to-bar process all within his home country of Madagascar, so to ensure high wages for the farmers and factory workers.
72% Dark - INTENSE & FRUITY
This dark chocolate will hit you with an intensely fruity and citrus flavour from the moment it starts to melt. Look out for notes of cider and balsamic under all those fruit flavours too. That fruitiness is typical of cocoa from the island of Madagascar, but we think it’s especially notable in this bar. This bar has been sweetened just enough to release the full flavour of the cocoa and has a long and subtly acidic finish.
63% dark with Nibs & Sea Salt - BRIGHT AND INDULGENT
The crunchy cocoa nibs give a rustic and robust touch to the freshness of the citrus and red fruit notes in this delicious 63% dark chocolate from Madagascar. The pinch of sea salt perfects the experience, bringing a juicy feel, enhancing the brightness conveyed by the subtle acidity and fruitiness of the Madagascan cocoa.
63% dark with Orange & Cranberry - FRUITY AND BRIGHT
The fruity and acidic dark chocolate from Madagascar is given an even fruitier twist thanks to the addition of sweet and fruity notes of orange peel and cranberries. The sweet but tart dried fruit give the bar a fabulously festive flavour that reminds us of richly spiced mulled wine and satsumas.
Madagascan Vanilla 45% Milk - FUDGY & FRUITY
An original yet elegant milk chocolate, whose buttery and vanilla notes are reminiscent of the indulgence of fudge. All this is conveyed by fruity and citrus aromas which are characteristic of the Madagascan cocoa beans.
